Hmm, interesting! There seems to be something wrong with the car.

Image

Look at the doors. Passenger side door is from 1953-1955 model, but drivers side door is from 1955 or younger! I think the body may be the old type (like my car) and someone changed the drivers door after accident???. It would be nice to see photo of door posts, because the old style door does not fit with new body and vice versa. To confirm the age of the body we should see the area under the rear seat. Did you date the car as 1956 by chassie number?

Unfortunately, i don't have picture of door posts. But right door is from older Beetle (about 1953), left driver door must be originally.
This Beetle chassis number exactly is 1956 year.

Little bit of work during the cold months:

1. Nice & shiny now!
2. checking for rust - not much found! :D
3-4. First fitting of new carpet. Still some work to be done.
5. Found a doorhandle from a split-window beetle under the red vynil!
6. Also new door-panels will be made

work continues!

Hi Undis, thanks for shearing with us! Lovely car! Nice job you doing there. I love the color. Did you buy the carpet in shape or you buy material and cut it your self?

Thanks, I bought the carpet at a local carpet shop and used the old carpet to make new patterns. Had to do a lot of changes because the old carpet was the wrong shape.

1. I only had 2 pieces of original carpet, the rest was ugly and cheap black carpet kit.
2. Here is closeup of original and my new carpet material. I think it looks pretty close to original...

Some more updates.

1. Continuing with the door panels. I used some thick cardboard to make new panels and covered them with vinyl.
2. Looks pretty good when installed.
3-4. Had to do some modifications to the rear seat. My seats are from 1959 and they donít fit properly in an early oval body. So some shortening of the seat bottom and reshaping of the seat back was needed.
5. Then all seat frames were sand-blasted, nice and clean now!
6. New beige paint on the frames.
7. This is how the car looked in April.
8-10. Decided to take out the front suspension and clean it up and repaint everything.
Put it together with new rod ends.
11-12. Another nice thing is the hidden air-horns. They are loud!
13. Made a new holder for the brake fluid container
14. Some rust repair will be needed in the future here.
15-16. Started on the front seats. I used the original pieces from the old seats to make new ones in vinyl.
17. The final result is fine, considering this is the first time I have tried to do this.
Also the seat back is ready for new coversÖ

Ö more to follow.
